The giveaway happened Saturday morning at 1201 Donaldson Ave. and was designed to ease the financial burden on families struggling with rising grocery and gas prices. Carmen Gomez said the event was expected to serve a little over 100 families. She said both she and Joe Gamez grew up in San Antonio and believe it is important to give back to their community. The San Antonio Food Bank reports that one in five residents and one in four children in the city face hunger, making partnerships like this crucial ahead of Thanksgiving. Volunteers helped distribute 200 turkeys, 200 food boxes and 200 produce bags to neighbors who arrived for support. The law firm plans at least five more turkey giveaways across the San Antonio area, including stops on the East Side, North Central, West Side and South Side. Anyone interested in donating or volunteering can contact the San Antonio Food Bank, which may have additional Thanksgiving giveaways. This effort offers immediate help and allows more San Antonio families to enjoy the holiday without worrying about putting food on the table.
