The Eastland family is no longer in control of Camp Mystic. A federal bankruptcy judge has approved an agreement handing control of the camp to two independent overseers. This comes as the camp faces an active criminal investigation and multiple wrongful-death lawsuits stemming from the deadly July 2025 flooding. Now a federal bankruptcy judge has given two independent officials sole authority over the camp and its land. They’ll direct bankruptcy re-organization, decide how the camp will handle both lawsuits and government investigations. They'll also consider any sale of assets. The decision means a bankruptcy trustee will not take over the case, which many of the camp's critics had called for. The judge says the new leadership structure addresses concerns that the eastlands' personal interests could clash with the companies' interests. Any final civil settlements with the flood victims or the potential sale of the massive 749-acre Hill Country property will still have to be officially signed off in federal court.
